Troubleshooting tricks for the pond fountain pumps

There are some common issues that may be encountered with the pond fountain pumps. These pumps may be expensive to replace so frequently; it is beneficial that people should at least try to fix small problems by themselves. They should be able to find out the source of the problem & try to restore the pump to normal working position. For safety reasons, one should remove the pump from the water while examining it. Do not pick up the pond pump by its power cable as it can cause damage to the wires. Instead, take out the pump by its handles.

Some common problems that one may find in the pond fountain pumps are:

  • Overflow in the fountain – When one finds that there is some overflow of water in the fountain even when it is switched off; it means there is too much water in the bottom reserve.
  • Blockage in the tubes of the pump – It is the most common problem found in the pumps and it is really very easy to fix. Just take out the hose clamp by using the screwdriver and then release the tube. Look inside the tube to check whether there is some mineral build up or something physically present which is blocking the tube. Use clean water or compressed air to fix the problem.
  • Blockage in impellers – If there is any blockage or debris suspected in the impeller, it should be unscrewed and washed with clean water.
  • Damage to the power cable – If one finds that any physical damage to the wiring, preventing the fountain pumps from working is the best option. Loose connections may also be the cause. Examine the power cable & power source properly for any such problems.

The fountains are a decorative item that can serve for a long time if they are well maintained. They can append a new height to the décor.
